Data Base on Social Communication and Internet

The Manuel Buendía Foundation's Data Base on Social Communication is a computerized data base designed to provide consultation services for researchers, professors, students, journalists and all those interested in the communication media. The goal of the COMSOC, as it is also known, is to build up a documentation center specializing in communication through the systematization and classification of journalist materials. The classification system used to file the materials is based on a computer program created by the Unesco: Micro cds/isis, which allows files to be created similar to that of library catalogues. In addition, short summaries of the information can be accessed. The data bank currently houses more than 17,000 entries on cinema, photography, comics, press, advertising, publicity, telecommunications, radio, television and video. References are catalogued by date, publication, author, title, synthesis, topic, sub-topics and names of persons and institutions. The data base currently supplies the content of the RMC's informational supplement, Bitácora de RMC. The Manuel Buendía Foundation has made available -thanks to the support of the University of Colima- a CD-ROM that contains the content of all issues (until number 42) of the Revista Mexicana de Comunicación. A substantial part of this collection will soon be available for the international public through the Internet. Through its web page, the Foundation already offers the main articles from the most recent issues of the magazine and maintains contact with persons and institutions worldwide.
